The Isle of Skye Tour from Inverness
The Isle of Skye Tour from Inverness begins along the side of the legendary Loch Ness, stopping at the romantic ruin of Urquhart Castle, perched on a great rock overlooking this dark and mysterious loch famed for its mythical monster!
At Invermoriston you will see Saint Columba’s Well before we head up Glen Moriston into Glen Shiel and head towards the Isle of Skye On the way, you will see experience some of Scotland’s most dramatic and ruggedly beautiful scenery. Beautiful lochs and towering mountains including the ‘Five Sisters of Kintail’ while driving along the routes ancient cattle drovers once took.
Eventually we arrive at Scotland’s most filmed and photographed castle, the world famous Eilean Donan Castle, former home to the Clan Mackenzie and with strong links to Clan Macrae. The castle is situated on a small island at the meeting place of three beautiful lochs –Loch Alsh, Duich and Loch Long. (Total return trip 5 hours).
There is an option to continue on to visit the beautiful Isle of Skye and to either have lunch in the beautiful village of Isle Ornsay at the Eilean Iarmain Hotel in the south of the island (Return trip 8 hours). Or you can choose to travel further north to visit the magical fairy bridge at Slighacan (Return trip 8 hours).
You might also choose to visit the island’s only distillery, Talisker or alternatively head further north from Sligachan to visit Skye’s largest town, Portree and a little time for a fantastic photo opportunity of the ‘ Old Man of Storr’. (Both are return trip of 10 hours).
We will take a different route back to Inverness for you to experience more of the Highland’s dramatic scenery along the way as well as a short walk to the beautiful Rogie Falls.
