The Speyside Whisky Tour from Inverness
On the Speyside Whisky Tour, choosing a good whisky distillery is almost as difficult as choosing a good malt whisky, a lot depends on your personal taste. However we recommend visiting at least one or possibly two of the following world-class distilleries: Glenfarclas, Glenlivet, Aberlour, Cardhu, The Macallan and Glenfiddich.
From Inverness, you have a choice of two routes. Your first stop can be at Tomatin Distillery south of Inverness. We then head east through rolling countryside, skirting the Cairngorm National Park, to arrive in Speyside, where about a third of Scotland’s 150 operational malt whisky distilleries are located.
Alternatively we can drive to the east of Inverness, along the beautiful Moray coast to the artisan, family-owned distillery, Ben Romach in Forres. Before heading further east to Elgin, with the Glen Moray distillery and then south to Speyside. Depending on which direction we approach Speyside from and how much time we have will determine which distilleries you will visit and for how long.
The Speyside Cooperage, the only working cooperage in Scotland where highly-skilled coopers are still using traditional skills to restore and repair casks. There you can also try your hand at making a mini-cask!
On the Speyside Whisky Tour from Inverness, there will also be opportunities to visit some of the towns and villages along the Speyside Whisky Trail, Forres, Elgin, Aberlour, Craigallechie and Dufftown. Plus you will get to experience some of the most rugged and wildly beautiful scenery of the Highlands, Moray and Speyside region.
